Description

I  Carl Linnaeus.
Do you?

.:[~*~]:.

If there is one Swede throughout history whom I truly adore, it has to be Linnaeus, because of his taxonomical accomplishments.

Because of this, nothing at all and some more, I created this stamp of him, for really, deviantART is in serious lack of stamps celebrating Linnaeus.

(My sisters often say I have an unhealthy obsession with the man. *cough*)

The stamp's design is inspired by my +I.Love.Tea+ -stamp.

The picture of him, which has been featured on this stamp, is well-known to all Swedes. You see, this portrait is featured on SEK100-bills.

(So, it is not for nothing I have collected some 50 SEK100-bills over the years.)

Carl Linnaeus [Carl von Linné] - (May 13, 1707 – January 10, 1778) - was a Swedish botanist, physician and zoologist who laid the foundations for the modern scheme of nomenclature. He is known as the "father of modern taxonomy." He is also considered one of the fathers of modern ecology.

The French philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau sent him the message: "Tell him I know no greater man on earth."

The German writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe wrote: "With the exception of Shakespeare and Spinoza, I know no one among the no longer living who has influenced me more strongly."

Swedish author August Strindberg wrote: "Linnaeus was in reality a poet who happened to become a naturalist."

Ohh I just love Linnaeus so much. I really really love modern Taxonomy and without Linnaeus I wouldn't be here obsessing over it like I am now. >u>
